Martindale is used to refer to the durabillity of a. In other words, Martindale acts as a measurement scale (metric) to (categorize) concretize a fabric's characteristics (into different levels of durability). When a fabric has a certain Martindale value it indicates that the fabric has gone through a durability test. The test is carried out by a machine that investigates how many turns (rubs) a fabric-covered plate can be spun against the fabric before the textile in question starts to rupture.
Knowing how much Martindale a fabric has is beneficial when considering the planned usage of the aforementioned. Depending on whether the fabric is meant for a piece of furniture, or perhaps to set up a curtain, there are various recommendations for the final result to last long term.
